Well I'm swamped right now. Work, school and random other shit are keeping me away from drawing. Updates will be slow .

Currently I'm trying to finish pics for the wonderful Northern California Bats. Check them out. At some point in time prints may be available, but no details have been worked out. I'll make sure to keep you guys posted in case you're interested.

I still feel like I'm not getting any better. I have made some progress in the past years.. but not as much as I would've liked.. and I think I know why. When I was looking back at stuff from years ago that I used to think was good.. I saw it from a completely different light (OMG WHAT WAS I THINKING WHEN I DREW THIS?!). So I figured I'd ask you guys for help:

I saw the whole 'first five people to comment get a sketch' thing on other people's journals, so I figured I'll do five speed paintings, like the random gift art, for the first five people who comment on this journal. I was hoping that in return you could seriously critique something that I've done. So, yeah tell me what you guys think I'd really appreciate the help.

In the meantime I neeeed to get Riverwolf's and Koisnake's requests done AARGH! I'm really sorry

I'm back.. woo. Sorry about being gone so long, I've been really busy. I got another job, got offered a second position in addition to the one I had gotten there, started DE online, had to learn pre-calc and some chem for next year, had a semester of summerschool, went on a ton of backpacks, been partying and going to the band sectionals that started up again. Yikes.

Anywho I figured I need to figure out how to get stuff done... so I've decided to a set of speed paintings for a bunch of random deviants. Yay! It's like winning the lottery when it only has a five dollar jackpot!

I've been thinking (I kind of surprised myself there) about stuff. If I were to open up commissions, would anyone be interested? I figure that the prices would go as follows:

Any kind of sketch: 0.50 US dollars
Inked pic, simple with no background: 0.75 US dollars
Inked pic, complex, background: 1.00 US dollar
Colored Pencil pic, simple with no background: 0.75 US dollars
Colored Pencil pic, complex, background: 1.00 US dollar
Any digital pic: 1.00 US dollar

If anyone would happen to be interested if I did start offering commisions, then let me know Just don't ask me to draw anything pornographic or really violent.

Blah... I've noticed a trend in my so-called 'art'; it's completely uninteresting. I don't even know what impression I was trying to make with the pics I've drawn in the past few months. I can't make an impression if I don't know what kind of impression I was trying to make. I can't expect anyone else to know what it was. Everything I've drawn up to this point has absolutely no meaning. If you can make it technically (not that I can) that's great, but isn't technique just a way to enhance a pic? It isn't what makes it good, it just helps make that impression on you stronger.

I don't know if I will ever develop the ability to make things interesting. I highly doubt it. Doesn't mean I won't try though.. I'm hoping that as my technique improves, as sketches come more naturally, flow better, look effortless, my energy will be more commited to making the picture powerful. That is if my
technique improves.. But first I have to decide what I'm trying to say.

I'm going to try to focus a lot more on stuff like that.. not the random 'omg composition is everything!!1 u can't have two birds there, you have to have precisely three and a half adjacent to this line and that line at a 57 degree angle from the branch that is hanging wi.... ' That's just plain silly.

As far as the contest goes, Mystiquemoons brought up a good point about the contest. Beauty is really in the eye of the beholder, and to judge the concept of the entries could end up hurting people. I was being stupid and thought that by doing a voting system for the judging of the concept part, it would avoid that, but it's the same problem just with more people. So yeah, if I can't think of anything to replace the concept part of the contest, then I'll just judge the entries based on execution. This might cause problems, but less than if I blatantly criticized others' views.

In other news, it's my birthday tommorrow.. woo.
